It's wonderful to feel healthy - have energy and motivation! Stay well everyone!
Thinking of making my tips in sequential order........will no doubt get off but intent there! If you are doing a portrait place the palm of your hand on the canvas and make a line on top and bottom. This should be the size of the head. I tend to paint heads too large so this really helps me keep everything inside the margins. The first endeavor is to get the outline of the face correct. Using your brush handle you can measure features. Both eyes are the same length and there is one eye length between the eyes at the nose. Depending on the tilt of the head, there is often an eye space from eye to ear. Using your brush handle as a measurement tool is most valuable in the placement of features. There are also many helpful books on portraiture one can purchase. And remember - lots and lots of practice.
Have fun!
